Millions of Americans live in areas under winter storm alerts stretching from northern Minnesota to the Eastern Seaboard.

The Mt. Hood National Forest announced a slate of roads and trails closed by storm damage, just as another winter storm began blowing across the mountain.

As a winter storm system pushed east, it wreaked havoc with tornadoes in Illinois and snow, ice, wind, rain and lightning for a wide swath of the nation.

Some light, scattered freezing rain is likely to fall starting around 8 p.m. and continuing through Wednesday morning.
